Today I have something very exciting to share with you, a brand new revolutionary product from the wonderful Anastasia Beverly Hills. Lash Genius* is a clear waterproof mascara topcoat, an umbrella for your lashes if you will. Designed to work on top of your favourite mascara to give a glossy, protective top coat to leave you with a water resistant finish. So the woes of there not being a waterproof version of your holy grail mascara are now over. The formula is fragrance free, paraben free, hypo-allergenic and has been tested by dermatologists, so suitable for everyone. Also perfect for blending the look of false lashes with your natural ones to give a perfectly looking finish Lash Genius is a great addition to any make up collection.
Anastasia Beverly Hills was a brand that I wasn't familiar with until the wonderful Pixwoo girls started using their brow products in a lot of their videos, they soon fell in love with the brand and I can see why, I'm equally as impressed with this product as they were with the brow ones. The brand is predominantly American but their products can be brought here in the UK on the Cult beauty website.
The packaging of the Lash Genius is beautiful, presented in a black box the sleek black tube of product really pleases me, it has a high shine finish and is quite long and thin. The brush of the Lash Genius if great too, it has a slight dipped curve in the middle and I find it perfect for coating my lashes, especially as it is designed to be used on top of mascara. I find that you can easily coat both sides of the upper lashes with this brush as well as the bottom lashes which is fab as it gives an all over waterproof finish.
I think the great thing about Lash Genius is that it gives you the option of a waterproof mascara, it also means that you don't need to hunt down the waterproof version of your favourite, if one even exists. I also think that it is cost effective as you don't need two different mascaras and even when you have used up the one you were using you can continue making your new one waterproof with the Lash Genius which retails at £14.
My mascara of choice at the moment is the Bourjois Fast & Perfect one with the rotating wand which they don't actually do a waterproof version of, and when you live in the UK you never know when it is going to be raining, sunny or stormy. I find that my mascara moves the most when it is raining, especially fine misty rain or when it is really hot and humid, which have been the only two variations of weather we have seen this summer.
When applying Anastasia Lash Genius on top of the lashes it hardly alters the look of the mascara you are already wearing, the clear formula makes no difference in the colour of your mascara and it simply leaves you with a glossy, separated finish. To use you simply use your mascara of choice, applying your normal one or two coats, then when it is dry you apply a thin even coat of Lash Genius and you are protected for the whole day. It also doesn't make the lashes feel heavy or clumped up, if anything it helps separate them out.
You can watch a full product demonstration and see how it works on the Anastasia Beverly Hills YouTube channel here.
I have been wearing and testing the Lash Genius for around a month now, and it has done exactly what it claims to do. It has kept my lashes looking tip top and in place when caught in the most horrific of downpours, and as equally as protected from the panda look when decorating or being in the garden in the intense heat.
To put it to the ultimate test and show you how it performs I decided to blast myself in the face with my shower, as shown above the water droplets simply fall off the lashes and your mascara is still perfectly in place. I even pushed against my lashes with a tissue when they were wet and you can see there is the tiniest little smudge of mascara on there and I can quite safely say that will be where I have missed when applying it as Lash Genius really is waterproof. I have taken showers with it on and even under constant hot running water it doesn't budge.
Removal of the product is just as easy as the application. As long as you use a waterproof eye make up remover then it comes off with ease, I simply use the eye make up remover pads from Primark. You don't need to rub for a long time meaning that you aren't left with sore red eyes. As you can see above it shows the whole process of using Lash Genius, the first picture is mascara alone, then with the Lash Genius waterproof topcoat, followed by the lashes being blasted with warm water from the shower, and then my naked lashes after removing al remnants of the Lash Genius and mascara 12 hours later.
I really would recommend you trying this product, I think it's great to have in your daily make up bag or handbag so that you can go without being worried about getting caught in the rain, heat or wrapped up in a tear jerking moment.
On the Cult Beauty website you can purchase the Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Genius in two sizes, a 2.2g size for £7.50 and the full 5.5g size for £14 both with free delivery, which I think is a great price, as it is in the same price range as a high street mascara anyway but has a multitude of uses and will waterproof any mascara you want it to.
What do you think of Lash Genius? Have you had the chance to try it out, or do you think it would be a good investment for you? I'd love to hear what you think.
